EXPERTISE AND INTERESTS

Christine joined the Unit for Psychological Medicine at the Centre for Psychiatry and Mental Health in February 2023 as a Research Associate, working on the Equality of Opportunity for Timely Dementia Diagnosis (EQUATED)project. This qualitative study explores how older people from minority ethnic groups in East London experience the early symptoms of dementia and seek help.

Christine is a registered mental health nurse with experience working with older people in both community and liaison roles. Prior to her current role, she worked as a Senior Lecturer at the Association for Dementia Studies at the University of Worcester, and in nurse education at the University of the West of England and City University, London. She holds a BSc in Health Studies, an MSc in Social Research, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Adult Education.

Christine is currently completing an ESRC-funded PhD at UCL in the Department of Psychiatry, embedded within the APPLE-Tree study. Her doctoral research explores how active ageing policy and practice reconfigure cognitive impairment that is not classified as dementia. This work involves an ethnographic study of the intervention, drawing from medical sociology within a social science framework. Christine has a broad interest in qualitative research methods, with a particular focus on ethnographic approaches.
