Summary
There is a clear mandate from the NIHR for ensuring patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE) within health and care research. There is a clear response from teams across the research apparatus in the UK to take it up. While there are several clear benefits to conducting PPIE, there are some unclear aspects of the associated practices, including:
- How research and researchers benefit from PPIE
- The specific ways that PPIE shapes studies and projects
- Variation of PPIE practices across research
- These can still vary greatly, despite funder mandates, institutional supports and guidance, availability of experts, and public interest
This project will explore these questions.
