Promoting uptake and continued use of social care in people with dementia who live alone and have no informal support (SoCeeD)

PROJECT STATUS: Ongoing
/
START DATE AND DURATION: 1st June 2024
Summary

What is the problem we are tackling?

People with dementia can and do live alone successfully even when they do not have support from family or friends. However, they can find it particularly difficult to find out about, start using and continue to use social care services that might help them to live at home for as long as possible.

In previous research, we were told about some examples of good support, but we want to understand more about how they work and learn from them about what works and what needs to improve to best support people with dementia who live alone and do not have family and friends around.
What we are doing:
This study will
(i) find examples of this support in the existing literature and through our networks.
(ii) interview staff working in these types of services to find out how they helped people with dementia.
(iii) interview people with dementia who used the service to tell us about their experience.
(iv) explore how best to assess the impact of these services
IMPACTS
Possible impact and who benefits:
We will write recommendations for support services about how to best help people who live alone and do not have support from family and friends to access and use social care services. We will also develop guidance about how to assess the impact of these services for the people who use them.
