The origins of bipolar disorder (BD) are not fully understood and researching those at increased risk of developing this illness can lead to a better understanding of the risks and causes of BD.
There is growing evidence of substantial overlap between BD and several neurodevelopmental conditions.
This research is proposing to determine the degree of genetic and environmental overlap between neurodevelopmental conditions traits with hypomania in adolescence and BD using family history and twin methods.
The results of this project are broadening the understanding of the aetiology of hypomania and, by extension, BD.
