Unaccompanied asylum-seeking children (UASC) in the UK are a vulnerable population with complex social, mental and physical health needs. UASC are taken into the care of a local authority should receive an initial health assessment (IHA) within 28 days. A recent survey of IHAs across England showed significant variation in scope and quality of care. In response to these challenges, an ‘integrated pathway’ for UASC was developed in Camden. This model involves a multi-disciplinary and trauma-informed approach and prioritises three key areas for the UASC IHA: physical, sexual, and emotional health.
