Emergency surgery or not for common vascular conditions (ESORT-V study)

PROJECT STATUS:
Summary

For common vascular conditions including abdominal aortic aneurysms and carotid artery stenosis it is unclear which patients benefit from urgent versus elective surgery.

The ESORT-V study will address the question of how effective and cost-effective urgent versus elective surgery is for these patients.

Linked data from the National Vascular Registry, Hospital Episode Statistics and Office for National Statistics will be used in an instrumental variable analysis that will draw on each vascular centre’s “tendency to expedite surgery” to provide estimates of relative effectiveness.
