Summary
Children and young people seeking asylum and refugee (CYPSAR) in the UK face multiple intersecting barriers that negatively impact their health, education, and social wellbeing. These challenges are exacerbated by fragmentation of services, lack of data and evidence about how best to care for them, and lack of understanding about the needs and wishes expressed by the young people themselves. The AEGIS Project is currently in its development phase, supported by an NIHR Programme Development Grant (PDG), and aims to lay the groundwork for a 3–5 year mixed-methods programme of research to improve outcomes for CYPSAR and other marginalised young people. The project team combines expertise in health, social care, law, policy, education, and most importantly young people with lived experience.
