Summary
It is estimated that half of residential care home stays in England are self-funded. Whilst there are data on publicly funded residential care, this is incomplete, and provides limited information on care which is self-funded.
We will review literature and conduct secondary analysis of existing data to address three broad objectives, focusing on persons aged 65+: who is in receipt of care, type of care and funding; comparative analysis of health and social circumstances of those in care homes versus people in the community; and the distribution of length of stays in a care home at the end of life.
