EXPERTISE AND INTERESTS

Professor Rachel is Professor of Child & Adolescent Mental Health and leads the Child Trauma and Recovery Research Group. The group’s research focuses on complex child trauma and mental health, broadly spanning three key areas:

  1. Identifying key psychological and social processes linking trauma and maltreatment exposure to mental health and wellbeing.

  2. Developing and testing scalable mental health interventions for trauma-exposed young people.

  3. Implementing existing best-evidenced practices within and across social care and mental health services.

A significant focus of Professor Racheal’s research is on improving the identification and support of the mental health needs of care-experienced young people, with particular attention to service pathways and access between children's social care and mental health services. All research is co-developed with care-experienced young people, caregivers, and professionals.

Professor Rachel is also a member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors for the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS), where she Chairs the Public Health & Policy Committee.
