EXPERTISE AND INTERESTS

Abi is a qualitative researcher with a PhD in Sociology, with a particular interest in the intersection of socioeconomic deprivation and health inequalities. She has extensive experience conducting research with underserved populationsand ethnic minority groups.

Abi has worked as Principal Investigator on the ‘Improving Support for Pakistani Family Carers through Social Prescribing’ project, funded by the NIHR School of Primary Care Research (SPCR). In April 2024, she was awarded an NIHR SPCR Post-doctoral Fellowship. Her fellowship research focuses on the co-production of guidelines to support culturally relevant social prescribing opportunities for South Asian carers. She has also served as the qualitative lead on an NIHR SPCR-funded study investigating the self-management of multiple long-term conditions among individuals experiencing socioeconomic deprivation.

Abi has considerable experience in community engagement and has led several community-based projects through competitively awarded grants. She has also supervised undergraduate and postgraduate students and mentored a student placement through the In2Research programme.
